"The things we do . . .
|
He
looked terribly cold! It was
a rainy February afternoon; one of those raw days when the wind chill
makes it doubly uncomfortable.
He stood against the building under the overhang.
He had on a thin, threadbare coat and he was trying to protect his
guitar from the rain.
I knew I had a ten dollar bill in my pocket.
I wanted to buy bread or something.
As I passed him our eyes met.
He looked at me and I at him just for a second.
We didn’t speak. I
thought I'll get my loaf of bread and I'll give him the change.
When I came out of the store, he was gone.
I looked for him everywhere. Even
drove behind the store.
Later that afternoon, it suddenly struck me, I saw Christ today.
I had looked into his eyes and he into mine.
He needed help and I passed him by. .
. . and the things we fail to do." Fr. Bob McQueeney
